Beyond the Equations
Katherine Johnson’s story shows the struggle for visibility/invisibility in the theme unseen heroes. Though a brilliant mathematician at NASA, Johnson’s groundbreaking calculations for the Apollo 11 moon landing and other crucial missions remained largely invisible for years. Working as a Black woman in the 1950s and 60s, her expertise was often downplayed or simply uncredited. Yet, the accuracy and ingenuity of her work were undeniable. As recognition for her contributions grew, Johnson emerged from the shadows, becoming a powerful symbol of the invisible heroes whose work forms the foundation of success. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of bringing these unseen figures to light.
